Grantmaker Due Diligence in the Pension Protection Act Era

Tuesday, 10 April 2012
1:00 PM (Eastern)

How to Identify Supporting Organizations and Align Your Grants Administration Process with the 21st-Century Tax Code.
The Pension Protection Act of 2006 introduced major implications to the grantmaking ecosystem, including the introduction last year of automatic revocations of exempt status. Private foundations and sponsors of donor-advised funds must navigate a complex regulatory landscape and manage the risk associated with exposure to excise taxes and expenditure responsibility. This GuideStar webinar will provide an overview of the many changes of the last 18 months and address key grantmaking questions including:

  • How can I verify that a potential grantee is tax exempt?
  • How can I identify organizations that have had their exempt status revoked because they failed to file an annual return for three consecutive years?
  • How can I identify revoked organizations that have been reinstated?
  • How can I determine if a potential grantee is a supporting organization?
